We just got home from our first choir practice here in Pflugerville. The Lord has blessed us with some talented folks! We had 14 singers and the "Holley four!" I started it off with prayer and then read through our "Guidelines for Leadership and Public Ministry" and "Singers and Musicians Qualifications/Responsibilities" papers with them. This is our first offering of any official guidelines. To this point, we have just been mentioning some of it to the singers during our praise practices. There are other things that we will add in the future, but we wanted to start giving some of our expectations for those in leadership.Karla then lead in a chorus to warm up their voices while walking around and listening to them sing. She taught the old song, "Beauty of Holiness" by the Ohio Baptist National Choir. It is simple enough to start with and will do well in church also. (We are practicing for our upcoming Revival services with Evangelist Greg Henry.) They sounded awesome! I know you would expect me to say that, but you really don't know until they all start singing together. We did all of that in an hour and then they sat around talking and laughing together!
There is something about a choir that adds an extra dimension to services. The anointed unity of a singing group is powerful. We are looking forward to them singing in service. In fact, our newest lady said, " I think we could sing this Sunday!" But, we will practice again next Thursday... and we have to figure out how to get all of them in the little space we have up front.

Gene and Karla, this is just awesome! I know you will have another incredible choir. I'm anxious to hear it!!
How fun! I love putting a group together and watching them mature into a mighty worship team. Of course you all are pros at it. I can't wait to hear them sing.
