Presbyopia

Once we are in our 40's, the lenses within our eyes begin to harden and lose their elasticity—making it difficult to focus on objects close up.

This is a natural condition called presbyopia. Whether you've worn glasses before or not, you'll start noticing the need for them now. First to help you read, and eventually for distances a bit further away.
So, here is a 6th item that none of you know about me.....
Much to my disgust and to some of your delight (I'm sure),
I have joined the ranks of those attacked by presbyopia!

As some of you can attest, there comes a time when
the print becomes so small and blurry that you just don't care
what anyone thinks— you must have help.

I don't need them yet to preach and for that I am thankful -
and thankful for computers that can print bigger fonts
as you need it! These new glasses are just for reading,
so you may never see me with them on.
Just thought some of you would enjoy the great news!
I am now old.

Now, now, now! Don't be quite so hard on yourself. Here's my philosophy - if you didn't know how old you were, how old would you be? Somedays I am 19, and somedays, although I would never admit it, I feel 99. I have extreme nearsightness and have now reached the time for reading assistance. I have to put cheaters over my contacts! Oh, how disgusting! I have even found myself wearing my glasses more often so I can just lift them up, hold what I am reading to my nose, and hope no one is looking!

Oops, typo - it is nearsightedness.

That is amazing, I am over 40 by more than a few years and I am not wearing glasses. LOL! However, I did go & have my eyes checked and they said soon and very soon! Things are not really fuzzy but it takes a lot longer to get the correct answer when looking at things. I understand. I predict a picture with glasses soon! I pray I will look as distinguished as others including you.

As you should now the above comment was not from both of the Bryants. Only one of us is over 40. I am under 40 by more than even just a year. However, I have been wearing glasses for more than 25 years. I am still in the "30" club--a senior member though.

I'm glad you FINALLY gave in! I've known for a long time that you were needing the glasses to read. You don't fool those who have already been there, done that, and bought the t-shirt. LOL! You look good. I guess you have to have "presbyopia" to be a PRESBYTER?" LOL!

I'm just LOL. To think I knew you when you were 16. Well, that was a long time ago. Don't worry about a thing, jus think of the alternatives. Read not read, get old stay 40 forever. Thank God life does go on.

Well, Bro. Holley, not having to wear glasses until you were in your 40's seems great to me. I've worn them since I was 8, and my youngest daughter has had them since she was 3. Thank God for grace!!!

We all get hit sooner or later by the dreaded Presbyopia. I just hate it. I have always had perfect vision. Now to have to find glasses to read something drives me up the wall!

I have bifocal contacts that I love! Don't ask me how they work but they do! Beats chasing down reading glasses I leave laying around everywhere but where I can find them!!

Gene,

I agree with Ronda, you look distinguished! I hope I never have to wear them. There's something about something hanging off of your ears and nose!!!

Gene-

I fall into the camp that thinks they make you look distinguished. I've had glasses since I was in 7th grade and I am approaching legally blind without them. As for getting old, it sure beats the alternative.

Thanks for all the supporting comments. I am thankful for good sight otherwise and not having to wear them all the time. I really don't feel old at all, so that's all the matters! We started our life all over this year, in a way, and I feel like a pup!! God is so good.

I think you look very good in the glasses, Bro. Holley! I started wearing glasses when I was three, so they have been a constant companion through the years. I am just so thankful that I am able to see clearly!
